A WDC Chapter System Safety Society will be held 6:00PM Thursday 10 March 2016 at the AECOM Conference Center,  located at 16156 Dahlgren Rd, Dahlgren, VA 22448 <map>.  This month's speaker is Ms. Julie Simmons and her topic is "An Overview of High Energy Lithium Battery Hazards."

Ms. Julie A. Simmons is a senior battery technology expert at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division.  She has worked for the Navy on high-energy batteries for her entire career, and was recently presented with her 2
5-year anniversary pin from NSWC.

Julie started out with the Battery Technology Group as a materials research engineer focused on testing batteries to determine their performance and safety characteristics.  Over the years, as her knowledge and experience grew, the job evolved into her current role as trusted technical agent for the Naval Ordnance Safety and Security Activity, conducting safety evaluations and providing recommendations for use for lithium batteries used in systems deployed from all US Navy and Marine Corps platforms and shore-based facilities.  She received her B.S. from the University of Maryland at College Park in Materials Engineering in 1990.
