Education and Experience
Mark Geiger is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), a Certified Safety Professional (CSP),  and has a BS in Biology, an MSE in Environmental (Civil) Engineering, and an MS in Environmental Health Sciences (Industrial Hygiene).

Mr. Geiger is currently the Occupational Health and Safety manager (Acquisition) at the OPNAV Safety Liaison Office, OPNAV N09FB.   He was Head of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Departments at Naval Medical Clinic, Quantico, Virginia from May 1999 to August 2000, Head of the Occupational Safety & Health Division, Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland from May 1993 to May 1999, and Head of the Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Departments at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA fro July 1991 to May 1993.  He was also a Senior Industrial Hygienist, and directed and conducted research supporting OSHA’s development of Occupational Health and Environmental Regulations.

“Working with other professional organizations to integrate knowledge of diverse disciplines offers the best approach for engineering a safer world. This is particularly true when the methodology of system safety can be used to promote a common risk-based approach. I would welcome the opportunity to support collaboration with other organizations toward this common goal.”

Positions and Titles:
Mark Geiger has been a member of the System Safety Society for 8 years.  He has presented and organized Occupational Health and Safety tracks at Conferences from 2004 through 2007 and for the June 2008 DC Chapter Workshop.  Mr. Geiger coordinated a joint one-day professional development conference on Design for Safety with the DC area chapters of the System Safety Society, American Society of Safety Engineers and American Industrial Hygiene Association.  He coordinated meetings between the local chapters of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and the System Safety Society.

Mr. Geiger was President of the Potomac Chapter of the  American Industrial Hygiene Association.in 2003-2004.  He presented to the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) at the local environmental section and technical symposiums in June and August 2003 and June 2006.   He was the National Safety Council/Maritime Section (co-organizer of seminars of design for safer ships and maritime facilities) in 2002 and 2003 and speaker at the 2003 National Safety Congress in September 2003.  He also is an Adult literacy tutor for  the  Northern Virginia Literacy Council.
